Community Service

PTA members assist Abingdon's social work team with two food distribution programs. One program through Real Foods for Kids distributes produce to 25 Abingdon families twice a month. Another program with Capital Area Food Bank holds regular distribution events at the Park Shirlington apartment complex near the school.

In 2018, PTA helped reestablish a school garden at Abingdon. (The original was founded in 1991 and may have been the first in Arlington!) Since then, PTA members have joined with community gardeners a couple times each year for garden cleanup events. In 2024, PTA also helped plant a new pollinator garden by the car drop-off lane.
